Yerevan hosts international economic conference attracting leading scholars

A two-day international scientific conference opened in Yerevan on Monday to address the methods of effective development modeling in the fields of economy and politics.

The event, attended by internationally acclaimed scholars, is aimed at exploring prospects of sustainable and effective economic development through the prisms of politics, economics and innovations.

EU Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, CEO of the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprises Tigran Yesayan and the director of the SME development project in Armenia, Eva Nehe, welcomed the participants of the symposium. The opening ceremony was also attended by Minister of Economic Development and Investments Tigran Khachatryan, representatives of the government and international organizations, experts and other guests.

The international economic scientific conference is being co-chaired by David Sahakyan, a leading scholar from the Artem Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory, and Dr Thomas Lux, a professor of the Economics Department at the Kiel University (Germany). Mr Lux is a governemnt advisor known also for his accurate forecasts in the field of economic development.

As part of the two-day event, the prominent specialists will discuss effecitve methods of economic development based on Armenia’s example to later submit corresponding programs to their governments.

Didier Sornette, a professor on the Chair of Entrepreneurial Risks at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, will deliver a special lecture. Additionally, Yaniir Bar Yam, a Boston-based economic modeling specialist (who develops policies also for the White House), will join the participants through video conferencing.

The event has brought together scholars from universities of Armenia, Russia, Iran, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, China and the United States.

The Artem Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory has initiated the scientific conference in collaboration with the Government of Armenia, the Union of Advanced Technology Enterprise, and the Support to SME Development in Armenia project (under the sponsorship of Ameriabank).
