Armenia President visits “Armenia: Legend of Existence” exhibition in Moscow

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who is on a working visit to Russia, today visited the exhibition entitled “Armenia: Legend of Existence” held at the State Historical Museum of Russia. The latter was organized in the framework of the cooperation program between the Armenian and Russian Culture Ministries.

Over 160 unique exhibits from History Museum of Armenia, Museum of Etchmiatsin Mother Cathedral and Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) are presented at the exhibition.

The organizers have also published the picture book of the exhibition, which introduces the history and culture of the Armenian people from ancient times to modern days. There is also a separate section dedicated to the Armenian Genocide.

By the end of the tour, President Sargsyan left a note in the museum guestbook: “As a President of Armenia, it’s a great honor for me to be present in one of the most ancient buildings of Russia –the State Historical Museum – where the exhibition entitled “Armenia: Legend of Existence” is being held. The exhibition is dedicated to the millennial history of the Armenian people, which also includes many interlaced pages of history and culture of our brotherly peoples. I’m sure that the unique documents and exhibits preserved here will from now on also be replenished with the new valuable testimonies of the Armenian-Russian long –lasting brotherhood.”

The same day an award-giving ceremony took place at the Armenian Embassy in Russia. At the ceremony, President Sargsyan bestowed Order of Friendship upon Russian Constitutional Court President Valeri Dmitry Zorkin for his significant input in enhancing Armenian-Russian friendly ties, as well as years-long productive cooperation in the sphere of justice.

The President decorated the same order on the Russian Prosecutor General Yury Yakovlevich Chaika and Russian Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Ivanovich Bastrykin for deepening the cooperation between the Armenian and Russian law enforcement authorities, as well significantly contributing to developing and enhancing Armenian-Russian friendly ties.

President Sargsyan, who is also President of the Chess Federation of Armenia, today also attended the official opening of the Candidates Tournament for the 2016 World Chess Championship. The President welcomed the most powerful grandmasters of the world taking part in the Tournament, as well as the numerous fans following their game. He wished luck to the Tournament and made the first step in the chess game of the international GM Levon Aronian.

Apart from this, Sargsyan played a game of chess with President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov of the World Chess Federation (FIDE). This unplanned blitz chess match ended with the Armenian President’s “victory.”

Having completed its working visit to Russia, the delegation led by President Serzh Sargsyan will return to Yerevan tonight.
