Armenia President: We need to work together in fight against this international scourge

The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Wednesday sent a letter of condolences to President Hassan Rouhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Sargsyan extended his commiseration in connection with the deadly terrorist attacks on the Iranian parliament and the tomb of Imam Khomeini.

“I strongly condemn any act of terrorism and extremism. We are convinced of the need to work together in the fight against this international scourge.

“Stressing the importance of security and stability in our neighboring and friendly country, I am confident that the Iranian authorities will take all necessary measures to prevent such actions ahead.

“At this time of dismay, I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to Your Excellency, to the friendly people of Iran and the victims’ families and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” the Armenian President’s message reads.

Gunmen and suicide bombers on Wednesday carried out attacks on Iran’s parliament and the mausoleum of revolutionary founder Ruhollah Khomeini in capital city Tehran, killing and injuring several people.

The Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for these attacks.
