2,800th anniversary of Yerevan

King Arkishtí, of the ancient Armenian kingdom of Urartú, founded Erepuni, old name of Yerevan, current capital of Armenia, in the year 782 BC, to serve as protection against the attacks that came from the North Caucasus. It is, then, one of the oldest cities in the world.

Last Sunday Yerevan celebrated its 2,800th anniversary with big events that included shows, concerts, a marathon and fireworks show.
