A documentary on the Armenian Genocide is on the shortlist of Oscar nominations.
“The Other Side of Home” (by Nare Mkrtchyan) has been presented for award along with nine short-length movies.
The film tells about a Turkish-Armenian woman whose grandmother was a Genocide survivor. The hero, whose memory sees a struggle between the survivor and denier, decides to visit Armenia in 2015 to take part in the Genocide centennial events.
The Yerevan-born director settled in Los Angeles in 2001. Since her completion of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, she has produced over 60 short-length movies.
The 89th Academy Awards will take place on February 26, 2017.
