Europe must finally realise the nature of the Azerbaijani regime, a Member of the European Parliament Frank Engel told Armenian News- NEWS.am.
According to him, this was a cleptocratic dictatorship, which abused the conflicts with Artsakh and Armenia in order to strengthen and perpetuate the Aliyevs’ and their associates’ grip on the country.
“As long as the conflicts continue, their hold on Azerbaidjan will continue – otherwise their reign would crumble. Azerbaijan needs the conflicts so as to avoid a popular revolution. We listen to and hear Azerbaijani human rights defenders and intellectuals, but there is not enough conviction yet that Azerbaijan cannot be a partner for Europe in its present shape,” Frank Engel emphasized.
