The first mass in seven years was held in the Armenian Forty Martyrs Cathedral of Aleppo, RIA Novosti reports.

Militants blew up the temple of the Forty Martyrs in April 2015. They laid explosives in underground tunnels dug under the foundation, the church building was destroyed by 70%

However, the church was reconstructed and re-consecrated in March 2019 under the guidance of His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia.

The restoration of the temple, built in the 15th century, was funded by donations from the Armenian community of Aleppo.
