Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Tuesday visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to introduce Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, the newly appointed minister, to the agency’s staff.
Describing the diplomatic corps as an accomplished structure in the state apparatus, the chief of cabinet highlighted especially the high degree of public trust in the body
He also thanked the outgoing minister, Edward Nalbandian, for his work over the past period
“My motivation behind proposing this ministerial portfolio to Mr Mnatsakanyan was to ensure smooth political changes in the Foreign Ministry and the diplomatic corps. I think we will need to focus serious efforts on that in the near future to resolve the extremely serious vital issues on Armenia’s foreign policy agenda,” he added,
Highlighting the country’s high reputation on the international arena (in the wake of the recent political changes), Pashinyan said he finds the moment favorable for foreign policy breakthroughs.
Later, the outgoing minister offered his congratulations to Mnatsakanyan, expressing hope that he will work effectively in his current position, coordinating professional diplomats’ work towards future achievements.
Thanking the premier for the high degree of trust, Mnatsakanyan took the chance to appreciate also his predecessor’s professionalism, and contribution to the capacity-strengthening in diplomatic corps. “I perfectly understand the full specter of the existing challenges, but also feel enough confidence and strength thanks to the big team working here. I am confident that by relying on our potential, we will be able to make for future progress on Armenia’s [foreign policy] agenda,” he added.
